At the Dubai Marina
Up late again at 1030am. We went for a walk to the Emirates Buildings and the new financial district. There were many huge skyscrapers that seemed to go up forever.
The Dubai Marina.
Me surveying the scene. The development is very extensive. Building cranes everywhere with many Asian (Indian) workers.
A beautiful building.
These guys certainly do things in style here. Although it was fairly hot we decide to walk to JeremiahBeach. We walked through some poor areas but as we got closer to the beach the houses got prettier. We were the olny people walking.
Jeremiah Beach was gorgeous.
Jeremiah Beech.
Hardly anyone was there. Some maintenance workers depositing large amounts of sand to improve the beach. You could tell that it was all fairly new. We had a little paddle in the water. It was as warm as the bath water. Pity we hadn’t brought our swimming gear. After this we flagged a taxi back to the hotel. The taxis away from the hotels were fairly cheap.
In the early evening we got a taxi to the Dubai Marina. This turned out to be a huge development on a considerable scale. There were skyscrapers everywhere. Quite a few were built but loads more were on the way. After wandering around the marina taking everything in we walked out to the main road intending to catch a taxi to the Burj Al Arab.
The Burj Al Arab. Maybe one day we will stay there!
There wasn’t any taxis about so we set off to walk to it. We could see it in the near distance but after ½ an hour we didn’t seem any closer. We managed to hail a taxi and were taken to the hotel. Unfortunately when we got there we found you couldn’t get near it. It is completely enclosed and security guards on the front gate prevented people from entering. There were many people taking photographs. We managed to take a few then we got back in the taxi.
It was around 7pm by this time, so we asked the driver to take us to the river south of Deira City. There was a park area running alongside the river and many boats were parked up wearing pretty lights, they were all curry boats. We walked towards the mosques. There were many small boats on the river ferrying people about across the river. This is a popular way of getting about and avoiding the traffic.
Down by the river
This area was predominantly Indian Asian. There many people here out enjoying an evenings stroll, kids playing in the park. We carried on walking past the mosque and into the town centre. It was very busy with traffic and people. We took a few photographs of the mosques and museum. Finally heading back to the hotel and the bar for the evening.
